FC Halifax Town are having to deal with further speculation over the future of manager Neil Aspin after he was linked with the vacancy at League II strugglers York City.

The 49-year-old has had five years in the Shay hot seat and guided the club to three promotions and Vanarama Conference football.

Aspin, who started his managerial career at Harrogate Town, has previously been linked with Port Vale, where he was a long-serving player.

A solid defender who played centre-back or right-back, he started out at Leeds United and also had stints at Darlington and Hartlepool United.

Former Northern Ireland chief Nigel Worthington resigned as York manager on Monday with the Minstermen one point above the relegation zone.

The club say they are keen to make a quick appointment, preferably ahead of Saturday’s home meeting with Shrewsbury Town.

Ex-Scunthorpe United chief Russ Wilcox, Worthington’s right-hand man Steve Torpey and former York manager Gary Mills, now in charge of Halifax’s Conference rivals Gateshead, are also being touted.

Fifth-placed Halifax are next in action at home to Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday, when they seek a first victory in four games after winning eight of their first 13.
