Fomer Huddersfield Town trialist Shola Ameobi is now set to train with Sheffield Wednesday.

The 33-year-old ex-Newcastle United striker last week made an unsuccessful bid to earn a deal at Wolves.

The Nigeria international was unable to sufficiently impress Molineux manager Kenny Jackett.

He had discussions with Town boss Chris Powell after featuring in a behind-closed-doors game, but no contract was agreed.

Ameobi was capped by England at Under 21 level before making his Nigeria debut in 2012.

He represented the Super Eagles at the 2014 World Cup and in 10 appearances for them, has scored twice.

Ameobi scored 79 goals in 219 starts and 178 substitute outings for Newcastle before leaving in 2014.

He had a brief stint in Turkey before spending the second half of last season at Crystal Palace.
