Sean Scannell helped Town complete a Championship double over the club who courted him during the August transfer window and said: “To win with 10 men was brilliant.”

The wide player contested the 51st-minute dismissal of teammate Nahki Wells for a second bookable offence, calling the red card “harsh”.

But he hailed the response of Chris Powell’s side, who kept their hosts at bay before sealing victory with two goals – through Jacob Butterfield and James Vaughan (penalty) – in the final 15 minutes.

It’s now five successive wins in meetings with Millwall for Town, who are up to 14th in the table after a second successive victory on the road.

“Millwall is never an easy place to come,” said ex-Crystal Palace player Scannell, who put Town ahead in the 17th minute before tall Austrian striker Stefan Maierhofer equalised in the 28th.

“To get a win here with 11 men is good, so to do it with 10 is brilliant. We kept fighting after Nahki was sent off and we got a great result.

“The red card was harsh, but with the number of yellows dished out, it was always likely to happen to somebody.”
