Huddersfield Town will have Championship rivals Middlesbrough for company in Spain this week.

Boro, bossed by Spaniard Aitor Karanka, are also holding a training camp in the Marbella area.

“We could have had a game against them, but thought it better to avoid a team from the same division,” said Town manager Chris Powell.

Instead, Town are taking on Leyton Orient at the La Cala complex, where Powell’s squad are based, on Saturday (11.00).

The Town party, minus injured striker James Vaughan, flew out yesterday.

At Manchester Airport, they ran into players from Chesterfield, who are in Portugal, and Fleetwood Town (Germany).

Boro went to Spain to prepare for last season’s play-off bid.

They beat Brentford over two legs in the semi-finals before a 2-0 friendly defeat by Norwich City at Wembley.

Karanka’s side were 1-0 winner in their friendly at League II York City on Saturday.

But they lost newly-signed defender Alex Baptiste with a broken leg.

Boro are hoping to bring Chelsea’s Czech centre-back Tomas Kalas on loan.

They are also targeting international duo Christian Stuani, the Uruguay striker from Spanish side Espanyol, and Stewart Downing, the England winger who is currently at West Ham United.

Boro, like Town, have a home friendly against Spanish opposition coming up.

While Town take on Deportivo de La Coruna on Wednesday, July 29, Karanka’s team face Getafe on Saturday, August 1.
