Huddersfield Town boss Mark Robins reckons Oscar Gobern has what it’s takes to make an impact in Town’s midfield.

And he has urged the 23-year-old to make the most of any opportunities he is handed.

Gobern is hoping for another outing at Reading on Saturday after a first appearance in 10 Championship games at home to Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

While his mistake led to the first of Albert Adomah’s double for Boro in the 2-2 draw, Gobern had a hand in both Town goals, from Adam Hammill and Nahki Wells.

The former Southampton player, signed in 2011, has been restricted to 20 appearances this season, 10 of them starts, taking his overall Town tally to 62 games (46 starts).

He is contracted to the end of next season, having signed an extension last May, and Robins said: “He is a decent player.

“He’s not given me enough this season to merit a regular place, but after some indifferent team performances of late, I wanted to give him a chance on Tuesday.

“I know Oscar has the ability to do the job I’m asking, and he has to make the most of the opportunities which come his way.”

Town are still 16th in the table, while Reading remained sixth despite their unexpected home defeat by Barnsley.

Boss Nigel Adkins admitted it was a poor all-round performance, adding: “We have to reflect on why it happened and make sure we are ready for Saturday.”

Town’s Under 18s face Birmingham at PPG Canalside on Saturday (12.00) aiming to further boost their Professional Development League divisional title chances after a 6-4 home win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

The Under 21s, already crowned PDL II North champions, take on Birmingham at Canalside on Monday (1.00).
