AS fans wait for news on Ken Davy’s response to Adam Pearson’s bid for the club, manager Andy Ritchie says the chairman has gone over budget to back him at Town.

In the wake of Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Walsall, Ritchie responded to questions about the strength of the squad by endorsing what the owner has done since appointing him in April.

“Fans are always going to say we need new players and better players after a defeat like this,” said Ritchie.

“We are over budget at the minute, so the board are backing me, don’t worry about that.

“We have touched on this so many times and it’s just not an issue. You work to the budget and that’s the way things are – otherwise we go into administration again.

“No-one wants that again so people might as well stop harping on about the budget.”

Richie (above) added: “I’m happy with the budget– they’ve backed me with bringing Ronnie Wallwork in which has put the budget under strain, let me tell you, so budget-wise nothing is going to change.

“We have to deal with it as things are and you come into a job and you take it on as that.”
