Huddersfield Town have loaned Northern Ireland striker Martin Paterson to Bristol City for the rest of this season.

A summer signing from Championship rivals Burnley, Stoke-based Paterson has scored six times in 26 appearances.

But he has struggled to hold down a regular berth, and has hinted his future may lie away from the John Smith's Stadium.

The 26-year-old, contracted to 2015, has also played for Stoke and Scunthorpe and has 22 caps with three goals at international level.

Town boss Mark Robins said: "Martin is a senior professional and understandably wants to play regular first-team football.

"Although he has featured throughout the season, he wants to be a starting player, and this loan should give him that opportunity.

"We are comfortable in allowing Martin to leave at this time as we have other options in this area. We also have young players pushing for a chance."

Paterson is available for Bristol City's League One game at home to Swindon today.

Town yesterday loaned Spanish striker Cristian Lopez to League Two strugglers Northampton.
