PAWEL ABBOTT will start next season as a Huddersfield resident and with a fresh outlook on playing for Town.

The 21-year-old striker suffered more highs and lows than anyone as Town eventually achieved their promotion goal.

He scored five times to help Peter Jackson's side cement their play-off place, committed a miserable error which cost them automatic promotion and then returned in triumph to play his part in Cardiff.

It was a roller-coaster ride for the popular former Preston frontman, but Jackson believes he is set to flourish in the next two seasons - after some heated words on the training ground!

"I was disappointed with Pav's reaction after the Cheltenham game because everyone else rallied and he didn't," said Jackson, still enjoying a holiday.

"He continued to sulk about the mistake he made, his attitude wasn't right and the way he trained was poor.

"Instead of calling him into my office, though, I confronted him about it all in front of all the other lads on the training ground.

"I told him it wasn't acceptable, I was disappointed in him and I told him I would be leaving him out at Lincoln because I wasn't happy with his response.

"It shocked him, I've no doubt about that, and I just left him to stew.

"A couple of days later Pav came to see me, he said he had let me down, he had let the team down and he'd let himself down and, from that moment onwards, his response was excellent."

Only a substitute at Lincoln in the first play-off semi-final leg and left out altogether at the McAlpine, Polish Under 21 cap Abbott was back to lead the line alongside Andy Booth in the Millennium Stadium showdown with Mansfield.

"Pav showed his true character by working really hard in the final and it was a shame he picked up an injury in a clash with the keeper," added Jackson.

"Because he's such a big lad who has been at a club like Preston and played internationally, we tend to forget that Pav is only a young player and that he's still learning the trade.

"He can over elaborate at times, but he's big and strong, will work until he drops and he will definitely score goals.

"He's a very talented lad who will do well for this club over the next couple of years and he's coming to settle in the area, which will help him as well.

"There were some ups and downs for him towards the end of last season, but Pav can always content himself in the knowledge that without his goals in some vital matches, we wouldn't have been in a position to go up in the first place."
