Chris Powell admitted opposite number Stuart Gray had a right to feel aggrieved about a rejected penalty appeal – but insisted his Town team deserved to edge the drawn Yorkshire derby as much as Sheffield Wednesday.

The goalless stalemate in front of a 14,389 crowd (2,227 travelling fans) and the Sky Sports cameras left Town 14th in the Championship and their visitors a place and a point above.

Gray, whose also saw Stevie May hit both bar and post with the same shot, said Joel Lynch’s late challenge on Chris Maguire, who was booked for diving, was a “stonewall” penalty.

“There was no way it was a dive. You want the right decisions. At the moment, we are not getting them,” said Gray, whose team have gone 10 league games without a win.

Powell responded with a smile: “It was a great decision by the ref. Sometimes they go for you and I must admit, it went in our favour.

“Stuart will obviously feel a bit aggrieved, but both sides had good chances to win it.”
