Phil Billing can play a part for Huddersfield Town this season according to manager Chris Powell.

The 19-year-old Danish midfielder made his second appearance, and first under Powell, as a half-time replacement for on-loan Emyr Huws in the 2-1 Championship win at Charlton Athletic.

“It’s great that Phil came on and did well. For a young player, he stands out. You can’t miss him and hopefully that’s his career up and running,” said Powell.

Danish Under 19 international Billing, whose other appearance was from the bench at home to Leicester City in April 2014, got the nod to go on ahead of Kyle Dempsey.

“I hadn’t planned to start with Emyr Huws, but Jonathan Hogg’s (ankle) injury at Cardiff changed that,” explained Powell.

“Emyr is coming back after an injury himself, and he will be a big player for us, but he’s clearly not fully ready yet.

“He had a very good first half, and it was a tough act for Phil Billing to follow, but he did very well.

“I had a decision to make as to whether to go with Phil or Kyle Dempsey. I thought Phil suited the role I wanted, but it was good to get Kyle on the pitch later on.”
