Huddersfield Town advanced to the second round of the Capital One Cup, but only after they were given an almighty scare by plucky Chesterfield in a 5-3 thriller .

Ritchie Humphreys and Ollie Banks had put the hosts in the ascendancy but Nahki Wells responded, only for Eoin Doyle to notch a third for the Spireites.

But Town fought back to force extra time through a Wells penalty after Stead had been fouled and Stead himself netted the last-minute equaliser when his shot squirmed through the hands of Tommy Lee in the Chesterfield goal.

And Town's superior quality and fitness levels told in extra time as Wells completed his hat-trick before substitute Joe Lolley got in on the act with a fifth.
