KEVIN PILKINGTON will be doing his best to floor Town and one of his old teammates in Cardiff.

The 30-year-old Mansfield goalkeeper was on the books at Manchester United with Town loan man Paul Rachubka.

"Although Paul is a good deal younger than me I know him well," said Pilkington.

"He has done really well for Huddersfield this season and I'm chuffed for him.

"I'm sure we'll have a word and shake hands as we cross on the pitch and I'm really looking forward to the game.

"It has seemed a long time since we got through against Northampton and now I can't wait to get cracking.

"It was always one of my ambitions to play at Wembley and I never managed to achieve that, so Cardiff is the next best thing and, hopefully, we can come out on top."

Pilkington's save from Eric Sabin was pivotal in taking Mansfield through their semi-final and he added:

"I was confident I could save at least one out of five and that's how it worked out.

"Our lads then took their kicks superbly - top class.

"I just told all of them as they stepped up to really `mean it' as they took the kicks, and they did.

"Penalty shoot-outs are always a bit of a lottery. It's a nasty way to go out but a great way to win and, if we go on to get promoted, we'll have no complaints about it."

The 6ft 1in Pilkington, who also played for Port Vale and Wigan before signing at Field Mill, believes Monday's final will be a true footballing contest.

"There will be a big crowd because Huddersfield and ourselves have tremendous support and we are not that far apart, so there is a bit of local rivallry," he said.

"I think it's going to be a really good game because Huddersfield like to get the ball down and play and so do well. I'm looking forward to it and it will be massive if we can win and get promoted."

Pikington has played in all 55 of Mansfield's senior matches this season.

Rachubka, of course, joined Town only in March but has made 15 appearances including the play-off semi-finals.
