Huddersfield Town secured a seventh point in the space of a week with a battling 0-0 draw at Blackburn Rovers as Jordan Rhodes missed a second-half penalty against his former club.

The Terriers were well worth the point as they defended manfully against a Rovers side who looked bereft of ideas up front in the absence of Rudy Gestede but Alex Smithies was still called upon from time to time to preserve the clean sheet.

Rhodes squandered the chance to net his sixth goal in five matches against Town since switching to Rovers in August 2012 after the hosts had won a penalty through a handball but the former Terrier dragged his spot-kick well wide of Smithies' right-hand post.

But how did each Town player rank in the stalemate at Ewood Park?

See our player ratings below.

Smithies - Has received criticism in some quarters for a shaky start to the season but there could be no denying his quality here as he single-handedly kept Rovers at bay at times, making particularly impressive stops to thwart Lee Williamson and Joshua King and he dived the right way for Rhodes' missed penalty. 8.

Smith - As ever, steady without being spectacular but that is exactly what Powell would have demanded from his right-back and he carried out his task to perfection. He made some positive overlapping runs to back Sean Scannell up in attack and put in a number of good challenges. 7.

Hudson - Just pipped by Smithies to the man-of-the-match award but one heroic block to stifle King in the second half was vital to Town's cause and the central defender showed just why he has been revered as one of the best summer signings made by the club by displaying an authority which resonated with the rest of the back four. 8.

Lynch - Struggled initially to cope with King's pace but warmed to the task and became more and more confident as the game wore on. He was invariably in the right place to make an interception or clear the danger and played his part in restricting Rovers to speculative long-range attempts. 7.

Robinson - Looks to be experiencing a new lease of life under Powell and it showed here with a combative performance which also featured plenty of productivity in the other half of the field, not least his cut-back to Wells, which could have resulted in a first-half goal. 7.

Scannell - Like Robinson, Powell's arrival has breathed fresh air into his career at the club and he looks to be relishing a sustained place in the starting XI on the right flank. His delivery and decision-making were not always to the tune of his peers but he did well overall, particularly from a defensive perspective. 7.

Butterfield - Played an understated role compared to recent games but was still largely at the heartbeat of everything good about the Terriers with some crisp passing, clever footwork and astute vision allowing him to keep Town on the front foot and navigate his way out of congested situations in midfield. 7.

Coady - Not his finest performance but it was always going to be difficult to live up to the events of Wednesday night after his wonder strike downed Wolves and this was a more reserved display by comparison. With Jonathan Hogg out with a groin injury, however, Coady stuck to his remit to shield the back four effectively enough. 6.

Bunn - Difficult to find any faults in the winger right now and while his attacking performance was not quite at the same level as at Molineux, the amount of defensive covering he put into his shift showed how everyone at the club is behind what Powell is trying to implement. He is the physical embodiment of that. 7.

Wells - Got through so much hard work and it was surprising that he took on the far more physical Grant Hanley than Shane Duffy as his defensive opponent for the afternoon but gave the Scotland international nightmares with his incessant running and neat hold-up play. 7.

Holt - It just didn't quite happen for the new loan frontman on the day but the massive plus from Powell's perspective will be that he got 90 minutes out of the Wigan Athletic loanee without any signs of physical toil. He is still bedding into this Town squad and his early impact is a huge bonus for the club. 6.

Substitutes:

Peltier - Only came on for the final stages of the game to see Town across the line. 5.
