Huddersfield Town were made to pay for some abject defending as they fell to their third league defeat on the spin as Rotherham United emerged 2-0 victors at the John Smith's Stadium.

The Terriers fell behind just before the interval when Kari Arnason turned home at the back post as Steve Evans' side punished a wasteful start to the game by their hosts before landing the killer blow on the hour when Conor Sammon slotted home with ease.

Millers skipper Lee Frecklington was sent off late on to offer Town some hope of a fightback but they never materialised as Chris Powell's side failed to offer any sort of attacking threat and Evans' men saw the game out comfortably enough to boost their hopes of survival.

But how did each Town player rank in this latest defeat?

In pictures: Huddersfield Town 0-2 Rotherham United

Smithies - Clearly not aided by a charitable defence in front of him and had no chance with either goal but was guilty himself of some glaring errors early on, particularly when he was nearly caught in possession, and looked understandably nervous throughout. 5

Smith - Was the best of a bad bunch at the back but still suffered a personal nightmare for the opening goal as he failed to properly track his runner and actively try and deal with the cross in from the right. 4

Hudson - An embarrassing display from the Town captain, who showed none of the leadership skills he is famed for when his side were up against it and looked as lost as some of the young players behind him. Failed to show any sort of authority for either goal. 3

Lynch - A difficult return to the first team for the defender, who looked to be lacking in match fitness and the gamble Powell took on him being able to play backfired in the extreme as the left-sider looked a shadow of his normal dominant self. 4

Robinson - Went AWOL for both goals as his positional sense was once more called into question, with the first goal sure to be the most regretful on his part as he allowed far too much space for former Terrier Jack Hunt to burst into and supply a telling cross. 4

Butterfield - Frustrating display from the midfielder who tried to do too much by himself and struggled, just like many of the others, with the surface not helping him as he attempted to get the ball down and get his side playing. 5

Hogg - Showed some neat touches occasionally but was far too often on the periphery of the game and was overpowered by a physically superior Millers midfield, with his usual defensive nous in front of the back four in extremely short supply. 5

Coady - The pressure was on the midfielder to prove he was capable of coming into the fold once more and grabbing his first-team place back but he let the opportunity pass him by with some sloppy passing and shirking of challenges. 4

Scannell - His form has nosedived in recent weeks but this felt like the worst performance of the lot from the winger who has been so influential for Town this season but could not recapture that form as Hunt marked him out of the game. 3

Vaughan - Battled hard alone up front and was actually one of Town's better players on the day, showing good grit and determination in the first half to work some shooting opportunities but was let down by the lack of support behind him. 6

Lolley - The bright spark in an otherwise abject display for the Terriers as he brought a purpose and an inventiveness to the Town attack they had lacked in the last two games. Injury curtailed his afternoon's work but he had already made enough of an impression on the Terriers fans. 7

Substitutes:

Miller - Was brought on to add presence to the Town attack but was dealt with far too easily by the Rotherham defence, who nullified each of his strengths. 4

Majewski - The Pole's big opportunity to make an impact came in rather difficult circumstances but he still looked considerably short of the quality required to change the game in Town's favour. 4

Wallace - Struggled against the directness of Sammon and was forced into one or two poor clearances as a result which could have cost Town a third late on after replacing Lynch. 4
