Huddersfield Town secured their joint-highest league position of the 2014/2015 season with a convincing 3-0 win over a poor Reading side.

The Terriers came flying out the traps and deservedly took the lead courtesy of a Harry Bunn header from a right-wing Jacob Butterfield free-kick as they took the game to Steve Clarke's side.

Nahki Wells hit a post but netted on the rebound when Jacob Butterfield's long-range drive was spilled by Adam Federici early in the second half before Ishmael Miller rounded things off by lobbing the Royals goalkeeper late on.

But how did each Town player rank in the impressive victory?

In pictures: Huddersfield Town 3-0 Reading

Smithies - Made a number of crucial saves that went somewhat unnoticed due to Town's sublime forward play, but one tip over the crossbar from Hope Akpan in particular proved pivotal towards securing all three points. 7

Edgar - Was not often called upon in defence and enjoyed an easy night's work on the whole but showed good pace at times to go and deal with Reading's wide players on the flanks. 6

Hudson - Led the backline superbly once more and was vital in stopping Yakubu, who was marked out of the game and failed to have any sort of impact. Town's captain has been outstanding of late. 7

Wallace - Akin to Edgar, not overly-exerted due to the lack of any purpose to the Royals attacks but he did make one important block to deny Yakubu a second-half consolation to ensure back-to-back clean sheets for Town. 6

Smith - A quiet game on the right-hand side as he filled in for Sean Scannell but he showed good awareness on the ball and his distribution of it was also intelligent, with one second-half pass to substitute James Vaughan particularly eye-catching. 6

Butterfield - Probed away throughout and, although he was guilty of over-playing at times, he was once again a central figure in everything good about Town's forward play. Supplied an excellent cross for the opener and his shot proved too hot to handle for the second. 7

Hogg - Gave Town the bite they lacked in midfield on Saturday as he offered a sturdy defensive platform and linked up in a two with Butterfield effectively. His interception and pass in the build-up to the third goal was truly memorable. 7

Robinson - Another who was not given much to do at the back and was content enough to offer Town balance out wide rather than over-commit going forward, where the Terriers had more than enough in reserve. 6

Bunn - Excellent showing from the versatile attacker, who looked keen to prove he can be a genuine option for Powell at No.10 for the foreseeable future. Took his goal expertly and kept driving Town on before receiving a standing ovation when he was replaced late on. 8

Wells - A livewire throughout, although the Bermudian may be disappointed that he was only able to register one on an evening when he could have reached double figures for league goals. Showed his penalty-area predatory instincts by following up Butterfield's strike to make it 2-0. 7

Miller - Outstanding display from Town's deadline-day signing, who offered both the cutting edge they lacked up front against Cardiff and the ability to fend off the attentions of Royals defenders. Thoroughly deserved his goal after a selfless role in attack. 8

Substitutes:

Vaughan - Certainly made an impact when he came on for the injured Wells and registered an assist with his lofted ball for Miller to score and he was a constant thorn for the visitors late on with his pace. 7

Lolley - Made some clever runs and showed some mature pieces of play with his touches as the clock ticked down. Powell will surely have been impressed, with an outside-of-the-foot pass the highlight of a 10-minute cameo. 6

Boyle - Only emerged for the final stages but will be delighted to make his debut on a perfect night for Town. 5
