Chris Powell says there’s no shortage of incentive for Huddersfield Town’s Under 21 players.

His comments came in the wake of a 1-0 Professional Development League victory at Barnsley.

Success was secured by Wales youth international winger Jake Charles, who scored in the first half.

Frankie Bunn’s side included defenders Joe Wilkinson and Joe Wright as well as midfielders Duane Holmes and Phil Billing.

All four have been on the bench for first-team games this year.

And Powell says there could be further opportunities, particularly with him having no plans to add to his squad.

“Things may have to change if we get a few injuries, but there are no imminent targets,” said Powell, who can make loan signings.

“I have the Under 21s to call on, and I wouldn’t hesitate to do that.”

Powell says the medical staff are “patching up” one or two players to keep them in action.

And he revealed mid-match concerns over centre-back Mark Hudson and left-back Jack Robinson delayed the introduction from the bench of Joe Lolley and Harry Bunn in Saturday’s goalless draw at home to Cardiff City.

“We had worries around 65-minute mark,” explained Powell, who finally made the double change after 87 minutes.

“That means we would have been struggling if either of them had been forced to come off.

“I didn’t want to take the risk, so we delayed bringing on Joe and Harry.

“They are both potential game changers, but the situation has to be right.”
