Mark Robins says every pre-season session and match will count as Huddersfield Town look towards their big Championship opener at home to Bournemouth next month.

The manager is pleased with the condition of his players, who have undergone a string of fitness tests since returning last week.

The footballs are already out as Robins and his new-look management team mix physical and technical sessions.

The boss is also looking to fix up a couple of behind-closed-doors games ahead of next week’s trip to Portugal.

“We’ve put a lot of thought and planning into pre-season and we’ve tweaked a few things,” explained Robins, who at this stage has a 38-strong squad of first-team and development players.

“The players followed individual programmes over the summer and all reported back in good nick.

“They are all fit and ready to deal with the work we have planned and our aim is to get through the pre-season sessions and matches with as few injury problems as possible.

“That said, we have to ensure they are up to full speed by the time of the Bournemouth game (on Saturday, August 9).”
