PLAY-OFF chasing Town boss Lee Clark would like to add “quality experienced players” to his talented League I squad.

The Galpharm chief will secure a top-six place today if Town win at Stockport and Colchester fail to take three points off Tranmere, but he revealed he’s already thinking about recruitment for next season.

Confirming Dean Heffernan and Robbie Simpson are available for the trip to Edgeley Park, Clark (left) said: “No matter what league you are in, you are always looking at bringing in higher-level players with a view to moving forward. The flip side of the coin is that those players don’t always want to drop a level, but we have already started the process of what we might do in the summer.

“The situation is that because of our recruitment drive last summer, when we completely overhauled the squad, our work this time doesn’t have to be quite so intense or involve the same numbers of players.

“What I would like to do is bring in one or two experienced players. The young lads we’ve got here are very talented, but at times when things are not going quite their way I feel they just need a little bit of help when they get over that white line – and good quality experienced players can to do that.”

Last summer, Clark signed skipper Peter Clarke, strike quartet Jordan Rhodes, Theo Robinson, Lee Novak and Simpson, midfielder Antony Kay and full-back Lee Peltier. Loans include Danny Drinkwater, Neal Trotman, Heffernan and Krystian Pearce.
