David Wagner has urged Huddersfield Town fans not to judge Rajiv van La Parra on one performance.

The winger, who has joined on loan from Wolves ahead of a permanent £750,000 move in the summer, made his club debut at Leeds United on Saturday.

But the Dutchman, who has a Town contract through to 2019 with a further year's option in the club's favour, failed to spark and was replaced by Harry Bunn at half time.

“It was not Rajiv’s best day,” said the head coach of the former Holland Under 21 player, who is now 24.

“But he worked for us and helped us in the first half and he will help us in the future for sure.

“Rajiv had only been here one week, and I think we were able to see that. He needs time.

“It was a tough decision whether to start with Rajiv or Harry.

“But if you don’t try it, you don’t know it.

“It is important Rajiv feels welcome here and you only get that feeling by getting playing time.

“He will get better for sure.”
