TOWN boss Peter Jackson is set to give new signing Frank Sinclair his first taste of League I football in 16 years when Town head for Bristol City tomorrow (3.00).

The 35-year-old ex-Chelsea and Leicester centre-back - 28 times capped by Jamaica - has signed on loan from Burnley with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer.

His CV includes appearances in the 1998 World Cup in France and four major cup finals, three of which brought winners' medals.

Until now, the former Burnley skipper's only appearances outside the Championship were when he was loaned to West Brom, then in the original Third Division, in 1991-92.

While his experience of Town's level of football amounts to just six games, Sinclair had never been to Huddersfield before yesterday.

He trained with his new teammates then completed the paperwork on a deal which, under league regulations, doesn't include the play-offs and can only be made permanent after this season is finished.

This morning, he was among an 18-strong squad which set off for an overnight stay before a game Bristol City are confident will beat the big freeze.

While fellow loan signing Andy Taylor, the left-back from Blackburn who missed last Saturday's 3-1 home win over Gillingham through illness, has had a full week to prepare for his debut, Sinclair is set to be thrown in at the deep end.

But he won't be fazed, explaining: "It happened at both Leicester, when I signed two days before playing at Manchester United, and Burnley, when the deal was done two hours before a friendly against Everton.

"I don't know many of the players here, although I have played against Andy Booth in the past, but they made me feel welcome straight away.

"I can't wait to get going, to be honest, and I'm keen to show everyone what I can do and help push Huddersfield Town towards the Championship."
