Jacob Butterfield was last night voted Huddersfield Town’s Player of the Year for the 2014/2015 Championship season.

The 24-year-old secured 30% of the vote to edge Sean Scannell (29%) into second place as he was awarded the prestigious Hargreaves Memorial Trophy for a superb debut season at the club.

After joining the likes of Mark Lillis, Andy Booth and Peter Clarke in landing the award, Butterfield said: "I'd like to thank everyone who voted for me for this award; I really appreciate it.

"As soon as I spoke to everyone at Huddersfield Town, I knew I wanted to do my best here. Hopefully I have."

The award, which was decided by Town fans' votes through a week-long Examiner vote, is named after Town supporters John and Edith Hargreaves.

Butterfield also picked up the Most Assists Award after setting up eight of Town's 58 league goals and scored six times as well having settled in quickly following last summer's move from Middlesbrough, which saw last year's winner Adam Clayton move in the opposite direction.

Top scorer Nahki Wells, who won the golden boot award as a result, was third with 15% having netted 11 league goals and 14 in all competitions for Town during his first full season.

Scannell's improvement this season was recognised by his peers as he pipped Butterfield to the players' Player of the Year award, succeeding Alex Smithies, who had won on the last two occasions.

Conor Coady capped an impressive first season with the club as he narrowly beat nine-goal Harry Bunn to the players' Young Player of the Year having joined midfield partner Butterfield on the most appearances (44) for any Town player this season.

There was also recognition for the Under 18 side which went on to secure the Professional Development League 2 North title for a second year in succession, with Jacob Hanson beating off competition from fellow full-back Jack Senior and midfielder Jamie Spencer.

The award - judged by the club's academy staff - was won last year by recent Town debutant Joe Wilkinson, who became the 900th player to feature in a competitive game for the club in the 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers.

Mark Hudson was handed the Media Player of the Year gong ahead of Conor Coady and Sean Scannell, while Joel Lynch's spectacular over-head kick in the 3-1 win over Watford proved most popular in the Goal of the Year award.

Joe Lolley was just about every player's vote for the Worst Dressed Player award and was presented with his award by captain Hudson, while Scannell picked up the President's Prize from David Taylor for providing most entertainment this season.

The Contribution to the Club award was won by ex-chairman and current president Taylor, while Lynch secured a double by winning a special award from The Town foundation having devoted hours to the charity this season.

Manager Chris Powell presented long-term supporter Maureen Procter with the 1908 Loyalty Award, having started supporting Town in 1943 and revealed to the crowd that she met her husband while on a football train going to a match at West Bromwich Albion.

And, lastly, the Champagne Moment award went to the £1m raised for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance in the club's 'Keep It Up' scheme.
