Huddersfield Town fans have voted former Celtic boss Neil Lennon as their choice to succeed Mark Robins as manager of the club.

Town have been without a permanent manager since the immediate aftermath of the 4-0 opening-day defeat to Bournemouth, as Robins left the club after a disastrous showing against the Cherries.

Mark Lillis, who gained a respectable 17% of the vote, has taken over in an interim capacity but the club board are believed to favour an experienced option over the fans' favourite, who has overseen two wins and a draw from his five games in charge.

Lennon came out on top with a 53% majority share of the vote and is clearly the most appealing candidate to supporters given that Chris Powell, also heavily linked with the post, had 19% by comparison.

The list of candidates has shortened in recent weeks and five primary contenders are appearing to emerge and with Lillis comfortably in third place, it leaves Coventry City manager Steven Pressley and Northern Ireland assistant manager Billy McKinlay to scoop up the rest of the votes.

Pressley came fourth with 8% while McKinlay received just 3%, perhaps indicating the fans' doubts over his experience in a managerial role.
