TOWN chief Andy Ritchie has had fruitful talks with a potential signing.

While he remains closely interested in the former Burnley and Leeds striker Ian Moore, he could now be closing in on another target.

Ritchie spoke with the unnamed player yesterday, while spending hours making inquiries from his Galpharm office.

"I saw a player yesterday and I'm hoping that might prove fruitful," said Ritchie, whose efforts have already attracted more than 4,000 fans to take up the cut-price early bird season-ticket offer which expires on Friday, June 1.

"If it did come off in the next couple of days, I think it would be a really good signing for us.

"Another possible deal which I thought might have been out of the window also came back on track a little bit yesterday, so I'm waiting to hear back from that as well."

Ritchie confirmed that Brentford's speedy striker Jo Kuffour remains out of the reckoning.

"The transfer market is awash at the moment and we are working closely with Scouting Network, via their internet database which is updated all the time, to keep an eye on things through the whole league," he said.

"When I was out of work, I still went to matches to keep abreast of players who were doing well and who might be options if I got back into the `rat race.'

"That knowledge is now helping me a lot and, having discussed things with the staff, we do know the targets who we would ideally like to bring in."
