Former Huddersfield Town striker Ronnie Jepson has been back in Huddersfield.

The 51-year-old – who played for Town from 1993 to 1996 and helped them win promotion at Wembley – was an interested spectator at the Sellers International Tennis tournament at Edgerton.

That’s because his son, Will, was playing in the 9 and Under Boys event, representing Ribble Valley Tennis Centre.

Rocket Ron, who was also Town’s assistant manager and previously boss at Gillingham, watched Will play well to finish second in his group, just missing out on qualifying.

“Ronnie commented on what a good set-up we’ve got at Huddersfield Lawn Tennis and Squash club and both of them enjoyed the event,” said the club’s Senior Performance Coach Becky Lee.

“I told Ronnie that when he was playing up front with Andy Booth they were the best ever days watching Town.

“He obviously remembers it well and we had a bit of a chat. he’s a really nice guy.”

Young Jepson was one of 54 boys entered at that age-group and the final between Thongsbridge’s Oliver Veseley and winner Miles Minchin (Hoole, Chester) was one of the best ever seen at 9 and Under.
