Town 2 - 1 Colchester. Danny Schofield's first half double handed the Terriers the points and Town shrugged off a late attempt at a U's comeback with Alan White's effort no more than a consolation.

Schofield put the Terriers into a 1-0 lead as early as the 4th minute when Leon Knight's perceptive through ball saw the Town midfielder clean through.

The Terriers were much the superior side on the night, with confident passing complimented by the rare sight of full backs Steve Jenkins and Gareth Evans making overlapping forays upfield to add themselves to the attack.

It wasn't long before Town went into a richly deserved 2--0 lead on 25 minutes when Kenny Irons' corner sparked off a melee which ended with Leon Knight's effort falling to Danny Schofield who hit his second of the night at the second time of asking.

The Terriers were flying in the first half but Colchester kept a tight rein on Leon Knight, with some tackles coming in too fast on the skilfull attacker.

Their game was more effective in the second half as they took advantage of the Terriers' deeper defending and invitations to attack with both hands.

Chris Hay put in a couple of enticing crosses during the second half while Andy Booth had his chances to create a winner - notably from Schofield who spurned the chance of a hat-trick later in the second half.

The crowd could sense that the Terriers had lost their first half momentum somewhat and the U's finally took a chance when, with Andy Booth off the pitch, they capitalised on a corner late in the game to afford Alan White the chance for the equaliser which he duly took.

The last few minutes saw the Terriers enduring chances from Kemal Izzett and Adrian Coote along with a fine late Thomas Pinault effort which drew a save out of Martyn Margetson.

The final whistle saw the few who had attended in the stadium breathe a collective sigh of relief.
