Sean Scannell is out of Huddersfield Town’s tough Championship assignments at Burnley and Reading because of his hamstring injury.

And Jonathan Hogg (thigh) will be missing from a Turf Moor travelling party which manager Chris Powell says could include “five or six” Under 21 players.

The boss will make late checks on a number of other unspecified players who have niggling fitness issues.

But he insists 16th-placed Town will head across the Pennines believing they can pick up a fourth win of the season.

To do that, they’ll have to become only the third team to beat third-placed Burnley (after Reading and Ipswich Town).

While midfielder Hogg has been unavailable for the last four games, winger Scannell was injured early in last Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat by Derby County.

“They are both good Championship players who would be missed by any club,” said Powell.

“Sean has been a bit patchy this season, but he is still an important part of our team with his power and pace.

“He has an outside chance of being available against Leeds United (at home on Saturday, November 7) but we’ll see.”

On-loan Middlesbrough man Mustapha Carayol was Scannell’s replacement on the right against Derby.

Powell, who hasn’t ruled out altering his recent 4-4-2 system, could also call on Nottingham Forest loanee Jamie Paterson.

“He has been patient, which he knew he would have to be,” said Powell.

“He has done well from the bench and in training, and there will be games I feel are right for him to make a difference in.”

Burnley are chasing a fourth win in five and Powell added: “They have a certain way of playing and do it well.

Sean Dyche has a good and established squad, and he has spent good money (a reported £9m) on (striker) Andre Gray.

But we were in it against Derby, who beat us with a wonder goal, and we will go an compete at Burnley.

“We understand how this league is, and the challenges it poses, but we won’t shy away from them.”
