Wales international Huws, on loan from Wigan Athletic, was forced off during the 3-2 home defeat by Cardiff City last time out.

Lolley missed that match through illness, the first time he has been absent from a game during David Wagner’s reign.

“Joe has been training with the squad and will be in contention,” reported the head coach, whose side have suffered three straight defeats.

“But the news on Emyr is not so good. He will be out for three to four weeks.

“He has had the same injury before, and while it’s bad, at least he doesn’t need an operation.”

The loss of Huw could lead to a return to the starting side for Dean Whitehead.

The former Middlesbrough man has made three appearances from the bench since returning from a knee injury.

Wagner also has Jordy Hiwula, recalled from his loan at Wigan, to call on.

“I am looking forward to working with Jordy so I can build up a really good picture of what he can offer us,” he explained.

The boss, whose side beat Preston 3-1 t home on Boxing Day, watched Preston’s goalless draw at Derby County on Tuesday.

“They are well organised and focused, especially defensively,” he added.

“Preston are not an easy side to score against, but we managed it before and we must find a way of doing so again.”
