Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal believes his side’s positive, hard working approach is paying dividends in both penalty areas.

The Owls have been prolific in front of goal this term, with only Burnley and Fulham able to better their total of 56 Championship strikes.

But they have also have an enviable defensive record, with 14 clean sheets to their name so far this term.

And it’s been more than four and a half hours since they conceded away from Hillsborough - a run Huddersfield Town will be hoping to bring to a close when the pair meet at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

But Carvalhal insists they won’t be keeping 11 men behind the ball in the hope of stopping Nahki Wells and co getting on the scoresheet, and instead will be focused on hunting for goals themselves.

And David Wagner would wholeheartedly agree with the Owls chief’s emphasis on the whole team working as a unit to win back possession.

“There are two ways to keep a clean sheet. You close your goal and defend. It is hard to do that in this competition as all the teams play compact and your options to close the goal is very hard," declared Carvalhal.

“Our way is to be positive, try to create goals and do a very strong, organised reaction when we miss the ball. We want all the team to try and win the ball back and create damage to the other team.

“At the same time, you must be balanced and be ready to block the other team’s key players. We play to score goals but, at the same time, we react quickly when we lose the ball. All the time the team is balanced without the ball to block the attacks of the opponents.”
