LEE CLARK believes Carlisle have lost the “Andy Carroll of the lower leagues” with Gary Madine’s transfer to Sheffield Wednesday.

But he has emphasised to his players that the Cumbrians’ 4-0 home win over Bristol Rovers on Saturday shows they still have plenty of dangermen.

“Madine has been a big player for them over the last few seasons, but as is always the case, other players now have the chance to shine,” said Clark.

Ex-Tranmere man Craig Curran took Madine’s slot on Saturday, and Carlisle boss Greg Abbott said: “The club needs the money.

“I don’t even know what the fee is but the board have told me I can have some of it. They have told me to go and get some players who will improve us, and they cost money.

“I have not been given any figures but they trust me. I would like to bring in at least two players and it is up to me to get the right type at the right amount.”
