Shola Ameobi, the former Newcastle United striker linked with Huddersfield Town, is to train with Wolves.

Molineux manager Kenny Jackett will cast his eye over the 33-year-old Nigeria international.

Town boss Chris Powell last week said Town had been in talks with Ameobi after he trained with the club and played in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

But the frontman who had a stint with Crystal Palace last season is now in the West Midlands.

Jackett wants a reinforcement following a long-term injury to Nouha Dicko.

He said: “Shola will be training with us, and coming down to talk, but it’s early in the whole situation.”

Wolves host Town in a lunchtime Championship clash on Saturday, October 3.

And the Black Country club’s busy schedule means ex-Town midfielder Conor Coady will be available for that match despite being sent off during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with leaders Brighton.

The straight red for Coady, who left Town in a £2m close-season switch, means a three-match ban.

But Wolves have games at Middlesbrough in the Capital One Cup and Preston and Fulham in the league before hosting Town.

Chris Powell’s side have just one game in that time, at home to Nottingham Forest on Thursday.
