David WAGNER praised Town’s togetherness and fighting spirit after their excellent 2-1 win against Brentford .

He explained: “We spoke about our togetherness, but we said we had to show it.

“We spoke about our identity, too, but these are only words – we had to go out there and give our identity life.

“The way we did that was by everyone working for each other and showing real fighting spirit, and I think we produced some good footballing moments, too.

“We created some good scoring opportunities while in defence, I think we were strong and played with concentration.

“The lads gave Brentford only two or three opportunities and this is good, because we know how strong Brentford are and they scored nine goals against us in the last two matches.

“So this says everything about our performance. We were strong at the back and scored two goals to win the game, so we are very happy.”

Wagner felt everyone played their part.

“I’m very happy and proud, it’s good to have celebrations, and while this is just one game out of 46 it’s very pleasing to get the three points,” said the coach, who revealed Elias Kachunga’s tight hamstring is not too serious and he should be available to face Shrewsbury in the EFL Cup.

“It was a good performance from the whole team and, at times, outstanding.

“We deserved it and the score could have been higher, but I am not going to moan too much because we are all very happy.

“It was the perfect start for us and the atmosphere created by the supporters, even before the start, was something we were able to carry through the match.”

He added: “The starting XI knew what they were doing and the substitutes knew what they had to do – I thought the subs were outstanding for us.

“They knew they had to step forward, and they did.”
