David Wagner has given fresh insight into why he signed a new contract at Huddersfield Town.

The exact details have never been revealed, although chairman Dean Hoyle is known to favour rolling contracts.

Wagner – in charge since last November – had no hesitation in penning new terms last month and as Town prepare for their first match since then, at Guiseley on Wednesday (7.45pm), he explained the attraction.

“The main reason was because I trust in the people who work here – especially the chairman – and I trust in this project and this idea,” said Wagner, who is looking to add to his eight senior signings so far.

“When I look back over the last few months it makes all of us very confident – me included – that we are in a good way.

“I am totally excited to see where this will go and where might it end up.

“I’m keen to know how quickly we can make the next step, how the next step appears and the steps following that.

“Sometimes we may have to go a step back to take the next one forward, but it’s very interesting and exciting what might happen over the next two to three years and I’m very happy to be a part of it.”

Chairman Hoyle has backed Wagner to re-shape his squad, including the club record £1.8m signing of Christopher Schindler from 1860 Munich on a three-year contract (the club have the option of adding a further year to 2020).
