LEE SINNOTT is in line to be the next manager of Port Vale – according to Farsley Celtic if not the former Town defender himself.

Confusion reigned at Throstle Nest as the Blue Square Premier club said their 42-year-old manager had resigned and that they had agreed a compensation deal with Vale, who face Town at the Galpharm today.

Sinnott, however, insisted: “I’m flattered by the interest shown in myself by Port Vale.

“But at no time have I either verbally or in writing tendered my resignation to Farsley.”

Dean Glover, in caretaker charge since the departure of Martin Foyle, was due to be in charge of Vale for today’s crunch League I clash.

And there have been suggestions he could remain as assistant to Sinnott, pictured.

Cheltenham, meanwhile, have appointed caretaker boss Keith Downing on a permanent basis.

The 42-year-old had been John Ward's assistant at Whaddon Road since 2004.

Ward left for Carlisle a month ago.

Leeds have appointed former Notts County assistant manager John Gannon as their first-team coach.

He arrives at Elland Road just 24 hours after Dave Bassett was made assistant manager.
