TOWN boss Peter Jackson believes teenager Joe Skarz will benefit from his call-up against Scunthorpe - whether or not he figures in the big League I clash at the Galpharm (3.00).

The Huddersfield-born 17-year-old, who also plays cricket and tennis at a decent level, comes in as Jackson considers his options in the absence of left-back Danny Adams, who starts a four-game ban after his red card in last Saturday's 3-0 home defeat by Brighton.

Skarz, whose only previous first-team involvement was in the pre-season friendly at Ossett Albion and Wednesday's work-out at Bradford Park Avenue, will compete with fit-again Andy Holdsworth and Republic of Ireland Under 21 cap James Hand for Adams' berth.

He has been given squad number 31, and Jackson, whose side are ninth, said: "It's been a big week for Joe, training with the first-team squad and playing in the game at Park Avenue, and he has enjoyed the challenge.

"He has worked hard and looked good in the Reserves and he deserves this opportunity.

"Whether or not he plays, he will benefit from being involved in the build-up and the matchday itself."

Holdsworth, out for three games with an ankle injury, and Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who has missed four with a knee problem, are both in the squad after coming through the Park Avenue friendly.

Jackson could also reinstate centre-back Nathan Clarke, who was rested for the 2-1 win at Port Vale and on the bench against Brighton last week.

Third-placed Scunthorpe have centre-back Steve Foster available again after a three-match ban for a match which will be refereed by former Premiership whistler Andy D'Urso, from Essex.
