Sondre Tronstad is out to shine in the Spanish sun as Huddersfield Town continue their pre-season training camp.

The former Norwegian youth international midfielder featured in Saturday’s opening friendly at Guiseley.

Now the 19-year-old is aiming to carry on where he left off by impressing during sessions at the La Cala complex near Marbella.

Tronstad, signed in January 2014 but yet to feature at first-team level, is going into the last year of his contract.

There’s plenty of competition for a midfield berth from the likes of Jacob Butterfield, Jonathan Hogg, new signings Dean Whitehead and Kyle Dempsey, Duane Holmes and Philip Billing.

Like striker James Vaughan, Danish teenager Billing has been ruled out of the Spain trip through injury – in his case, a hamstring problem.

Trialist centre-back Martin Cranie, the former Barnsley skipper, is among the 25-strong squad being put through their paces.

Town take on fellow tourists Leyton Orient in a friendly at La Cala on Saturday (11.00).

Boss Chris Powell, who remains in the hunt for Manchester City striker Jordy Hiwula, is taking two training sessions each day.

“It’s three and a half weeks until our first Championship match at Hull City,” he said.

“This is a big week, and not just in terms of moving our preparations on a level.

“We’re all together for the week, and it’s my chance to get the players to understand exactly what I want and expect.

“Fitness is obviously a big factor because you get no rest in this league.

A chance to experiment with formations?

“But we’ll also be looking at various systems we might employ depending on the sides we come up against.

“And we will be working on team spirit, which is a key thing for me.

“It’s a case of getting everything to come together in time for the start of the season proper.

“We ended last season in encouraging style. But I want us to improve and I know the players want to improve.”
