Norwegian signing Sondre Tronstad is in line to make his Town debut in this afternoon’s development derby against Leeds.

But manager Mark Robins has shelved plans to give captain Peter Clarke a run-out as an over-age player in the Under 21 clash at Thorp Arch (1.00).

Clarke would have featured in the Professional Development League game had he not made his comeback from knee surgery as a substitute in Town’s 2-1 Championship win at Birmingham.

The 32-year-old, who last featured in the 3-1 home defeat by Lee Clark’s Blues on November 9, played the entire second half after teammate Joel Lynch took a knock.

Robins will today assess Lynch’s fitness, and won’t take any chances on Clarke as Town, 13th in the Championship, start the countdown to successive Saturday home derbies against Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley.

“I said Pete needed minutes on the pitch and he got some on Saturday,” explained Robins, who saw Ollie Norwood and Adam Clayton net at St Andrew’s after top-scorer James Vaughan failed a fitness test on his calf injury.

“He came on and did a great job, not just defensively, but in terms of his composure. It’s great to have him back.”

The Leeds game is the club’s first at Under 21 level since midfielder Tronstad, 18, signed from IK Start on a deal through to 2016.

“Sondre has settled in well and he is in line for a start,” said Robins. “I expect Joe Lolley and Murray Wallace to play a part as well.”

Former Birmingham junior Lolley, 21, was an unused substitute on Saturday.
