Huddersfield Town coach Steve Thompson has finally completed his move to Leeds United.

A month after the move was first mooted, the 50-year-old becomes assistant to Elland Road manager Neil Redfearn, his former Bolton Wanderers teammate.

Thompson had a decade coaching at Blackpool and joined Town as assistant manager to Mark Robins during the close-season.

He became joint first-team coach with Steve Eyre after the arrival of management pair Chris Powell and Alex Dyer in September.

Town’s chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: “On behalf of the club, I would like to wish Steve all the best in his new role.

“He joined us as we re-energised the support structure beneath Mark Robins, but the circumstances at the club changed very quickly – as can happen in football.

“Throughout the transitional period following Mark’s departure, Steve conducted himself in a very professional manner, ably assisting caretaker manager Mark Lillis, and has subsequently played an important role under our Chris Powell.”

Powell said: “I’d like to thank Steve for the hard work he has put in during our time together at Huddersfield Town.

“Along with the other members of the technical staff, he was very helpful in the early days of my tenure. We wish him all the best for the future.”

Redfearn will take his place in the Leeds dug-out for Saturday’s game at Nottingham Forest.
