LLOYD ALLINSON signed a one-year Huddersfield Town contract today and was immediately told: “The hard work starts here.”

The 6ft 2in goalkeeper – who played four games on loan for Ilkeston last season – is being backed to develop as part of Simon Grayson’s squad.

Grayson says the 19-year-old has plenty of potential and explained: “Lloyd has done well when he’s trained with the first team and we think he has a good future in front of him.

“We’re delighted he’s signed, but the hard work starts again for him now.

“Just because the young professionals have signed new deals, it doesn’t mean they have made it – the hard work of trying to get into the first team starts now.”

Allinson could be loaned out again.

“We’ll see how he goes and the intention is to play him in development games that we’ll have organised,” said Grayson, who continues to be linked with a move for French defender Dorian Dervite.

“But there is nothing better than senior league football for the lads. They learn quickly.”

Allinson is determined to continue learning from fellow keepers Ian Bennett, Alex Smithies and Nick Colgan.

“I wanted to put my name on the contract straight away because it’s another year to impress,” said Allinson.

“The other goalkeepers are a big help to me. I have a lot of people here to help me out.

“I just want to keep improving in training. Time is on my side, so I’ll be patient and try to impress – then we’ll see what happens. I’m very happy at Town.”
