Huddersfield Town prospect Rekeil Pyke has signed his first professional contract.

The first-year academy striker has agreed what the club are calling a “long-term deal”.

Pyke, 17, comes from Chapeltown in Leeds, and previously played for Rothwell Juniors.

He has been at Town since Under 12 level and has netted nine goals in 20 starts for the Under-18s.

Pyke has also played for the Under 21s, making five starts and a further five substitute appearances.

He scored twice in the 3-1 win at Cardiff City in November.

Town academy manager Mark Lillis said: “I’m delighted we’ve secured Rekeil’s future. He’s a player with a lot of potential.

“He’s made a fantastic start to his scholarship and this is just reward for his hard work and dedication so far, as well as his ability.

“He’ll continue to work under Tony Carss in our Under 18 group, as well as with Frankie Bunn and the development squad.

“The hard work has only just begun for Rekeil, but the incentive at this club is clear.

“He only has to look to the first-team game on Tuesday to see William Boyle – a player Rekeil has played with for the last two seasons – make his senior debut.

“That is what will happen at this club if you are dedicated and good enough.”
