Chris Powell has called on his players and Huddersfield Town fans alike to focus fully on the home Championship clash with in-form Brighton and Hove Albion.

The John Smith’s Stadium side aim to end the Seagulls’ 100% start to the season (three wins in league and Capital One Cup) against the background of keeper Alex Smithies’ imminent move to QPR in a reported £1.5m deal and speculation over the future of midfield ace Jacob Butterfield.

Derby County were reported to have Butterfield in their sights, but Powell has insisted he will not be sold and says he is in his plans for the visit of Chris Hughton’s Brighton.

“We seem to have been talking about other matters, not a very tough game which is coming up,” said Powell.

“My priority is ensuring we gain our first win of the season, then preparing for another important match down at Fulham on Saturday.

“We need to be playing at our maximum in both matches if we are to add to the point we gained against Blackburn Rovers.”

Powell says forwards James Vaughan and Joe Lolley will be available after injury, but has a fresh worry over wideman Sean Scannell (hamstring).

Brighton could hand a debut to Jamie Murphy, their new midfield signing from Sheffield United.
