Joe Lolley can be a major player for Huddersfield Town this season.

That’s the view of manager Chris Powell after watching the skillful 22-year-old impress during the pre-season matches.

Given freedom either on the wing – where he has previously featured – or at No10, Lolley has the pace and skill to trouble any defence and Powell feels he now has the experience to let that become a potent Town weapon.

“Joe has had a good pre-season, having scored in the first two matches – and he should also have scored at Grimsby as well,” said Powell.

“He is a danger, there is no doubt about that.

“If he picks the ball up wide right, which he likes, or he picks it up in pockets of space, he can be unstoppable at times.

“It was a skilful run at Grimsby which gave him the chance – and a brave run because he had to win a 50-50 against their centre-back and Joe is a bit of a will-o’-the-wisp really with his build – and it was a shame he hit the post when he should have scored.

“But he certainly has a lot of quality and, when he can produce football like that, going past people and making opportunities, I’ve just told him to keep on doing it.

“That’s what you want from Joe because that’s what he can do – and he is showing the fans and everyone that he certainly has some quality.

“I think he will make his mark this season.”
