TOWN have been quick on the draw to have the last laugh over their colourful club calendar.

The club's `Young Guns' posed in wild west costumes for the 2006 issue and have come in for some mickey- taking since the release of the gay cowboy film Brokeback Mountain.

Sky TV's fans programme Soccer A.M. were first to see the joke and now national newspapers have jumped on the bandwagon.

Far from heading for the hills, however, retail manager Michele Adamson has circled the wagons and fired some verbal bullets of her own.

"The reaction has been fun and we've all had a laugh about it - especially as the calendar is now a sell-out!" said Michele. "Our Young Guns were on the scene long before anyone had heard of Brokeback Mountain and, far from people being embarrassed by it, they've made it the fastest-selling calendar we've ever had."

Town produced 1,000 and the last two dozen went in quicksticks last week when they were reduced to £1.

One newspaper went well over the top, headlining their story 'Centreback Mountain' and adding `Oops, soccer stars in gay cowboy pose.'

Michele is unperterbed.

"The players have signed quite a few and I wouldn't be surprised to see them turning up on ebay as collectors' items, like the Calendar Girls one," she joked.

"When we came up with the idea it was something completely different for a football club and it was a perfect theme for us, with so many young players in the first-team squad.

"Now, because of all the jokes and the media coverage over the film, we've got the most talked about calendar in football history!"

So what's for next year?

"Watch this space!"
