MODEST Luke Beckett praised frontline partner Chris Brandon after his double helped Town sink Rotherham.

Brandon, normally a midfielder, stepped into the frontline breach when Andy Booth was ruled out of a first match in 19 because of a calf injury suffered in training.

He supplied the final balls for Beckett's goals at the start of each half.

And the former Sheffield United man, who now has 10 for the season, insisted: "I'm well happy with my goals, but I have to say Chris made it simple for me.

"He delivered two great crosses, then Micky Collins weighed in with another goal to show our dominance.

"It was a bit nervy after they pulled one back, but we deserved our win, because we worked very hard and were a man down for a lot of the game (after the 28th-minute dismissal of defender Andy Holdsworth).

Beckett said Town were keen to put on a show for their travelling fans (there were around 1,000 in a crowd of 4,448) after the letdown of the 2-0 home loss to Brentford.

"We played poorly on Saturday, and we wanted to give our fans something to cheer," he added.

"It was tough after they pulled their goal back in the first half.

"But we knew that if we got through to half-time on level terms, we could regroup and then hurt them on the break in the second half."

On the Holdsworth dismissal, he added: "We were disappointed with both the penalty decision and the sending off

"Andy insisted the ball hit him in the eye, which is why he went down, and we will appeal against the decision.

"But let's take nothing away from the 10 men who were left on the pitch, because they were excellent.

"There was some excellent finishing and we got off to a great start with Luke's first goal.

"The sending off and penalty changed the game but we were strong in the second half.

"It was a bit nervy when they pulled it back to 3-2, but we thoroughly deserved to win and our workrate and fitness was excellent."
