TOWN'S fans are today given the chance to choose next season's away shirt.

Chief executive Andrew Watson explained: "We are pleased to give our supporters the chance to chose next season's away kit.

"Although the current black away kit has proved a popular seller, we feel that the message from the majority of Town fans was that they wanted a change."

Mr Watson emphasised that, subject to sponsorship, Town have no intention of changing their home strip at the end of the season and the black strips will be used as a third kit for next season.

Fans are being asked to vote on two designs, with variations for both, and they are featured alongside.

And, as Mr Watson explained, they have chosen designs with a particular historical significance.

The plain red shirt has a long association with Town. In the 1908-09 season, Town's strip was `salmon pink' and this colour was a result of repeated washing of the red kit!

Later, a Town nickname the `Scarlet Runners,' was derived from the red shirt and white shorts used in Billy Smith's golden era of the 1920s.

The red and black shirt, popular with fans in previous seasons is perhaps best remembered in the 1969-70 promotion season from the old Second Division.

Town fans have until Sunday, April ,4 to register their choice to the Stadium Superstore at the McAlpine Stadium or by e-mail: retail@htafc.com
