JON WORTHINGTON believes the full benefit of a busy week’s work will be seen when the real business of League I gets under way, rather than in tomorrow’s friendly at Bridlington Town (3.00).

Andy Ritchie and his players head for the UniBond League Division I North club on the back of two games and three tough training sessions in five days.

Town took on Stoke in a private practice match on Tuesday – the Championship side won 3-2 – before beating AFC Emley 3-0 in their first public outing on Wednesday.

At other times, including today, the players have been working out under the guidance of fitness specialist Ed Baranowski.

It all means Town will trot out at Queensgate with heavy legs, but according to Worthington, high spirits.

“At this stage, it’s all about getting those fitness levels right,” said the midfield general, right.

“It’s not at all like the work we do during the season, because you’d be resting up before matches, and you’d never play three times in five days.

“But we all realise the work we put in now will pay off when the season gets going, and if we have to go through the mill a bit, so be it.”

Ritchie will again take all 23 senior squad members, and could also give further run-outs to trialists Lee Snodin and Jack Kamara.

“All the lads have had a chunk of game time so far, and I’m sure that will continue both at Bridlington and at Hucknall Town on Tuesday,” added Worthington.
