TOWN wingman John Thorrington is to have ankle surgery on Monday.

The 24-year-old American has missed the last two matches and could be out for several weeks.

It is an exploratory operation and will come as Town begin preparations for Tuesday night's trip to play Rochdale at Spotland.

"John's injury is one which just doesn't seem to want to settle down and that's why the specialist wants a closer look," said manager Peter Jackson.

"He is due to have the operation at 8am on Monday, which is the earliest we could get him in and, hopefully, it will be good news after that."

Injuries and suspensions are starting to hurt Jackson as he bids to move Town up the Third Division table.

Thorrington first suffered his problem in pre-season at Wakefield and Emley.

Having been on the bench against Cambridge for the opener, he earned a starting slot in the next four games, but he was forced off during the 1-1 draw at Doncaster on Bank Holiday Monday and hasn't played since.

Rochdale have signed Ged Brannan from Wigan on a month's loan.
