BATTLING Blade David Mirfin reflected happily on a tremendous Town display and beamed: "This is just as good as the play-off win for me!"

Sheffield born and brought up near Hillsborough, Mirfin is a lifelong United fan so last night's 1-0 win against Wednesday was the highlight of his season.

It was, too, for many in the Galpharm-best crowd of 17,292 who celebrated skipper Jonathan Worthington's early winner and a third successive win to put Town just six points off the play-off placings with six matches left.

"It's hard for me to explain just how good the win felt," said a delighted Mirfin today.

"As a Sheffield lad, growing up near Hillsborough, being a Blade when most of my family are Wednesday fans, it was just as good as the play-off final for me. Brilliant, just brilliant.

"I know it's not as important, but three wins on the trot is our best run for a year and we are on such a high at the moment that I'm confident we can build on this sequence.

"With others slipping up, why shouldn't we put pressure on the teams above and maybe have a late shot at the top six?

"I know it's a big ask and we would probably have to win up, but we've just had three great results and I don't see any reason why we can't add more."

Town moved from 15th to 13th in League I with a second successive clean sheet and only a second derby win in nine attempts this season as they prepare for Peterborough.

"Clean sheets for defenders are just as good as goals from the frontmen, so we are all delighted," he commented.

"Everyone is buzzing now, we've got a big battle for places and you can sense something good is happening, so it should be a fun few weeks for our fans, who were absolutely great once again."
