Huddersfield Town fans, we are offering you the chance to vote for your player of the month for February in the latest instalment of our new competition.

Each month, we will collate your player ratings and work out the averages for each player, with the top three coming into contention for the award and it's up to you to decide which Town player will be crowned the Examiner player of the month.

Joel Lynch was the comprehensive winner of January's award, after storming his way to 74% of the vote and comfortably saw off the competition of November winner Jacob Butterfield and striker Nahki Wells to the prize.

February was a mixed month for Town as they started the month with an impressive 3-1 victory at relegation-haunted Millwall but then went down 4-1 at home to a play-off chasing Wolves side just three days later to set in motion the topsy-turvy form which would follow.

They followed that up with the outstanding defensive performance to secure a 1-1 draw at leaders Bournemouth but one positive stalemate was followed by a drab 0-0 draw at home to Cardiff City which supporters did not take kindly to.

They ended the month with a win and a loss to mirror their start to February as Reading were comfortably swept aside in a 3-0 success before Chris Powell's return to Charlton Athletic turned into a nightmare with a 3-0 reverse to the Addicks.

Despite the ups and downs Town suffered, certain players stood out above the rest to help produce key moments and achieve results.

LOOK: Huddersfield Town in February

Alex Smithies

The Town goalkeeper has faced fierce criticism from the fans at times this season but in January he really came into his own and delivered three performances in particular which drew plenty of praise.

His upturn in form began when he at times single-handedly foiled Bournemouth and provided the rock-solid basis for Town to go on and secure a point, with back-to-back clean sheets following against Cardiff City - where he superbly denied Bluebirds striker Eoin Doyle - and Reading.

Jacob Butterfield

This is the midfield schemer's fourth time out of a possible four to be in the running for the award and the fact Joel Lynch is the only other Town player which has featured in more than one player of the month vote underlines how consistent the summer signing from Middlesbrough has been.

February might not have been his best month, but he started off with a man-of-the-match display alongside Sean Scannell at Millwall, where he pulled the strings in midfield and was rewarded with a long-range strike to re-establish the Terriers' lead and he was also influential against Reading, where he teed up Harry Bunn's opener and had a hand in the second for Nahki Wells.

James Vaughan

The frontman finally discovered full-match fitness during the last month and his improved performances were testament to that as he started February in blistering form with three goals in as many games against Millwall, Wolves and Bournemouth respectively.

Those goals took his season from two to five as he became a regular fixture in the side and, even when he didn't start, he was still able to come off the bench and have a tangible impact on the game when he came on as a sub against Reading as he teamed up with Ishmael Miller for the third and final goal.
