Mark Robins remained coy on links with Coventry defender Cyrus Christie but confirmed he is looking to create a Town squad capable of pushing for the Championship play-offs.

The 21-year-old, who played under Robins when he managed the East Midlands club, has long been talked of as a possible target.

But the boss, who has been forced to shelve plans to give teenage midfielder Philip Billing another outing at Watford because of a thigh strain, is refusing to confirm any names.

“Obviously I know Cyrus well from Coventry, and he is a good player who has done well down there,” said Robins.

“But we are going to be linked with all kinds of players at this time of year, and I’m not going to discuss any deals until they are done and dusted.

Town will end the season in 17th or 18th place, and Robins accepts the need for improvement as he plans for the club’s third successive season in the second tier.

“I’ve been happy with a lot of aspects of what we’ve done this season, but certainly not the results over the closing stages,” he said.

“At one point we were four of five points off the play-offs, and that’s where I want to be and what my focus will be on this summer.

“As we have often said, we are doing things in a different way to some clubs, because we have to be more self-sustaining.

“We are where we are in terms of our progression, but I’m certainly looking to freshen things up so that we can push on and be talked of as promotion candidates.”

Robins’ immediate priority is on finishing the campaign with a win at Watford, and he said: “I may try one or two things we haven’t done before in terms of personnel, but I want to win the game.”
