David Wagner says a potential loan for midfielder Kyle Dempsey is the only bit of business on the cards for Huddersfield Town ahead of transfer deadline day.

The boss says he is ready to react if Town receive any impossible-to-refuse offers for star men like striker Nahki Wells before 11pm next Wednesday.

But he insists he doesn’t expect that to be the case, and says sought-after Dempsey’s is the only file in his pending tray at the moment.

Wagner confirmed there have been expressions of interest in the former Carlisle United player, who faces plenty of competition for a shirt.

But he won’t make a final decision on any loan until after his Championship leaders have played Wolves at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

After making his 13th signing since the end of last season in Charlton Athletic left-back Tareiq Holmes-Dennis, Wagner has 25 senior players.

Six of them – Jonathan Hogg, Aaron Mooy, Jason Davidson, Ivan Paurevic, Philip Billing and Dempsey – are central midfielders.

“There has been interest in Kyle, and I have said he can talk to other clubs,” explained Wagner, whose side have three wins and a draw from four league games.

“But I won’t make a final decision on whether he can go out until after the Wolves match.

“Otherwise I don’t expect anything to happen, and it is not in my plans for anything to happen.

“I am happy with my squad and I am not active in regards to the deadline.

“But I must be prepared to react like we did when (left-back) Jason Davidson said he wanted to go out on loan (to FC Groningen).”
